Leap Day Puppet Cabaret – Thursday, February 29, 2024

Location: The Argot Room, 717 Haywood Rd, Asheville

An evening like no other!  Enjoy a fabulous 3-course dinner (with choices) by Chef Ryan Kline then be entertained by the creative imaginations of Keith Shubert and Lyon Hill!

Keith (aka Toybox) is a multiple award winning clown, puppeteer, toymaker, and event producer. Among his many awards are Fan Favorite and Best Performance at The National Puppetry Festival, Funding by The Jim Henson Foundation, and an UNIMA Citation for Excellence in The Art of Puppetry, the highest honor given in the field. Toybox’s performance is an inexplicable blend of clowning, storytelling, stand up comedy and puppetry.

Special guest Lyon Forrest Hill is the artistic director of The Columbia Marionette theater and is widely known in the puppetry community as an innovator. A lifelong purveyor of puppetry, comics, animation, and toys; Lyon synthesizes his interests into a unique type of performance that is heavy on atmosphere and detailed imagery. At the heart of his work, though, are hopeful and earnest ideas. Lyon will be performing a selection of short works developed for mature audiences that feature a variety of styles; including marionettes, shadows, and some inventive new techniques. He enjoys sharing the stage with his good friend, ToyBox. While their work is very different, they are in many ways two sides to the same coin.

    • Doors will open at 5pm for a cocktail hour, then guests will be seated for a 6pm dinner, and entertainment will follow.
    • The cost is $125 per person, and this includes dinner, entertainment, and gratuity.
    • Alcohol and additional sales tax are not included.  Reservations can be canceled up to 48 hours in advance.
    • Please note: This event is for adults.

Truffled Cauliflower Soup (GF, Vegan) toasted hazelnut
 Mixed Lettuces (GF, Vegan*) apples, pumpkin seeds, cotija*, candied squash vinaigrette
Second Course:
Crab Stuffed Sunburst Trout (GF) haricot vert, baby potatoes, citrus-caper butter
 Pork Loin Katsu – sticky rice, braised daikon radish, cabbage slaw, Bulldog sauce
 Barbacoa Mushroom Tamale (GF, Vegan) roasted mushrooms, cashew crema, herb salad
Third Course: 

Peanut Butter Chocolate Torte (GF) peanut butter mousse, stewed grapes, sea salt
Mixed Berry Cobbler – pink peppercorn short dough, vanilla ice cream 
Horchata Pudding (GF, Vegan) hibiscus syrup, mint, puffed rice, almond, mint

We are honored to host Gundlach Bundschu Winery Owner Jeff Bundschu, who be sharing his family’s story and discussing the uniqueness of the wines we have selected for this event. For over 160 years, Gundlach Bundschu has been producing small lots of ultra-premium wines in the Sonoma California region. We have chosen 5 exciting bottles that showcase both excellence and diversity, and are pairing them with a specially-designed 5-course dinner by Chef Ryan Kline. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to meet the winemaker, and indulge in this unique culinary experience!

  • The cost is $150 per person, which includes 5-course dinner + 5 pairings. Tax, gratuity and additional alcohol is not included.
  • Doors open at 5pm for a cocktail hour, and dinner begins at 6pm.
  • Seats are very limited for this special event, and all seating is “community style”.

Franco-Vietnamese Caramel Braised Pork Belly – confit mushroom, tofu, rice cracker, Pho spice
Fourth course:  2021 Reserve Gundlach Bundschu Cabernet Sauvignon
